I inherited "house and lot." I am happy but not completely. Why? There is one thing more I long to inherit -- the heavenly kingdom spoken of by the Judge in today's gospel: "Inherit the kingdom prepared for you..." I teach Eschatology and I tell my students to always desire heaven and behold God face-to-face. In that kingdom where love is eternal, "life is Christ and death is gain" (Phil. 1:21). I may enjoy house and lot and all things material but only heaven can fully satisfy the deepest longings of my human heart. |
