It was a battle between life and pride. Yes, Herod had to choose between saving life and keeping his honor. He had earlier made a promise and he didn't want to lose his face. Consequently he had to order the beheading of John the Baptist for whom he had a high regard. Too proud! He could have saved the life of the precursor if he swallowed his pride. Truly pride is destructive. |
