The way of humiliation is the way of exaltation. This is very true in the Paschal Mystery of Jesus. By choosing to die, Jesus was raised up. As we celebrate the Triumph of the Cross, we remember how the Lord was exalted after being humiliated. The Johannine "lifting up" which echoes the serpent of the Book of Numbers pictures Jesus as being crucified to be the source of life. Yes, he died that we might live. |
