One interpretation of the sword of today's gospel is the sorrow or the sorrows of Mary. The Blessed Mother could endure the pain because she actively cooperated in the redemptive work of Christ. Her standing near the cross (or better still, next to the crucified) was her second Yes, her second Fiat. If we have such kind of attitude, our crosses become bearable. |
