Mrs. Tagle must be very proud for being the mother of Cardinal Chito who heads one congregation in Rome. The Blessed Virgin could have taken pride in being the Mother of God. Today's gospel, however, clarifies that blessedness is not in physical maternity but in spiritual discipleship. Mary is great not because she gave birth to Jesus but because she heard God's word and acted upon it. She was first a disciple before being a mother. |
