In our regional seminary, no one serves the priests at table. We get our food and stand up to fetch our own water. Today's gospel talks about a waiter's task, that is, to wait at table. As to when that practice began I have no idea. While serving at table is expected of resto food attendants, having that at home is, to my mind, already superfluous. Why "enslave" people when you can, without much toil, serve yourself? Such kingly life makes me uncomfortable. |
