Tidbits on the gospel: 1. "The beginning of the gospel" implies that God's work takes a process. Change does not happen overnight. 2. "Jesus" means "God saves" or "Savior." 3. John the "baptizer" focuses more on the function/mission rather than the name. 4. The Greek term "metanoia" for repentance translates the Hebrew "shub" which connotes a radical change of heart. 5. We need the "desert" to find what is deep and interior. 6. John lived simply (food and clothing), so, he had a moral authority to preach.
