Among the many icons, images or paintings that portray Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe stands out. It was never painted by any artist. It was Mary's own artistic work. In this image is proclaimed the true Theotokos. The people of Tepeyac were honoring the mother of the pagan god. Mary showed herself (in cincture, that is, pregnant) as Mother of the True God. Her motherhood announced by the archangel is always experienced in the "here and now. |
