Why do we say "Blessed be the Lord?" It is actually a praise and not a blessing bestowed upon him. Zechariah blessed the Lord, the God of Israel because " he has come to his people and set them free." In effect, Zechariah was doing a litany of praises resounding for all people to remember God's "promise of mercy to our fathers." In realizing God's Providence, we can also sing our "Benedictus" and forever give praise to God because through Jesus, he made the "dawn from on high break upon us." |
