At times we have to say "I am not the Christ" but at other times we should also claim "I am Christ." The former is our humble acknowledgement that we are only Christ's instruments. We preach about him and never about ourselves. The latter is our mission to be an "alter Christus" by virtue of baptism. Yes, we can be Christ to others, his visible embodiment. If asked "Are you the Christ?" we can say either Yes or No. |
