There is in us a tendency to unburden ourselves and shun the obligation to take care of others' needs. That was the disciples' attitude in today's gospel. They urged Jesus to dismiss the crowds and let them find ways to feed themselves. But the Lord was thinking differently. He would not want to send the crowds hungry and so, he multiplied the loaves and fish to satisfy their hunger. An example worth emulating! Let the people's burden be ours, too. Their cross is ours to bear. |
