People often ask, "Why does it take ten years or more to make someone a priest?" Today's gospel sheds light. When Jesus called the first apostles, he said "I will make you [fishers of men] to mean "I will make you become" which in Greek implies a "protracted, slow process" or a real training program. Yes, future priests need to be prepared and trained well. They must encounter Jesus first before they could share him to others in their ministry. |
