A medical doctor once described sleep as a reward to man for having worked well. Today's gospel speaks of that rest which is "shabbath" in Hebrew. It recalls the creation account when God rested after completing creation. It also follows Ex. 23:12 that provides for the rest of servants and working animals. Yes, we deserve a good rest but that is if we have labored hard. Woe to the man who rests and rests but doesn't want to work at all. |
