The Latin Church calls today's feast either as "Purification" (to refer to Mary) or "Presentation" (to refer to Jesus). The Eastern Church calls it "Encounter" or "Hypapante" to refer to Simeon's encounter with the child Jesus. Such meeting between the old man and his much awaited Redeemer evoked a great joy. In fact, Simeon said he could now "go in peace." Have we encountered Jesus that we can joyfully and courageously face death? |
