Perhaps a good Filipino translation of "compassion" is "malasakit." The word "mala" connotes "similarity" or "identification" and "sakit" means "suffering." In today's gospel, Jesus was moved with pity for the hungry crowds. He had "malasakit" for them and he multiplied the loaves and fish to satisfy their hunger. Our "malasakit" for others and readiness to suffer with them can make another miracle of love. |
