Ostentation -- This is the enemy of genuine piety. The three pillars of Lenten spirituality, viz., prayer, fasting and almsgiving, become less meritorious or not meritorious at all if done with a selfish motive of winning attention. When we pray, when we fast, when we give, our purpose is to glorify God. Hypocrites we become when, during this Season of Lent, we do them ostentatiously. |
