Philosophy says, "Whatever is received is received according to the mode of the receiver." Today's gospel makes it clear that the tax collector was "mercied" by God because of his humility. God's mercy is, doubtless, overflowing but can only be received according to the disposition of the recipients, by those who truly humble themselves. |
