Abraham Maslow listed "esteem" among his famous hierarchy of needs." One's need for esteem and self-worth can be satisfied by human praise. In today's gospel, Jesus admonished the Jews who accept human praise from one another. He reminded them to seek the praise that comes from God. The same counsel is given to us. Human praise satisfies our ears but divine praise is the one that fills the longing of our human hearts. |
