He loved them "to the end." The Greek words "eis telos" can mean (1) chronological end and (2)supreme degree of perfection. Jesus' love is indeed supreme and perfect. It lacks nothing. He lays down his own life. We, human beings, can only love that much. What we call real love can still be self-seeking and impure. Only Jesus has that perfect love. It knows no bounds. It embraces death. |
