Of course Jesus knows the desires of our hearts. But why does he ask, "What do you want me to do for you?" First, his dealing with us is personal. It is what philosophers call "I-thou relationship." Second, he wants us to humbly beg so we would remember we are nothing and can do nothing apart from him. Third, he gives us hope that he hears us and acts upon our petition. He stoops down to ask us. Let us look up and call upon him. |
