How do we cut the chain of retaliation? Simple -- Start a new chain of love. Today's gospel presents the antidote to revenge which puts an end to retaliation, viz, offering the other cheek, the cloak and an extra mile. All these are done in the spirit of love. The "lex talionis" can be viewed positively. When we are insulted, we give a smile. When we are hated, we give love. |
