The world abhors dictatorship. Jesus respects human freedom. In today's gospel, he asks the man infirmed for thirty-eight years, "Do you want to be well?" True indeed, Divine grace builds on human cooperation and consent. In no other time than in our own, Jesus asks us, "Do you want me to heal the world?" And we respond with free and trusting "Yes." |
