"Not only but also." This English expression emphasizes "both" and not preference for one over another. When Jesus said 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice," he meant both mercy and sacrificial offerings are important. We should strike a happy balance between acts of worship and works of charity. Truly both are necessary. |
