We only give a little when we give a part of ourselves. It is when we give our whole life that we truly give. In today's gospel, Jesus speaks of the bread that he gives which is his "flesh." The latter is rendered "sarx" in Greek which implies that he gives himself totally for the world. We who partake of the Eucharist are invited not to be beggars but donors of life and love. We are to give not just a part but the whole of ourselves. |
