Why is the cross exalted when ordinarily it is a sign of ignominy? The exaltation is given a deep meaning because of Christ's death on a cross which, in the Johannine theology, is his victory and glorification. When we look at the cross as a symbol of ignominious defeat, we will change our perspective. Now, we shall see the cross as a symbol of triumph. |
