There is a saddening scenario in today's gospel. "So many people were crowding together that they were trampling one another underfoot." Behind that gesture is the selfish desire to be at the advantageous position at the expense of other people. Christian life is not a competition. It is not a survival of the fittest but a lifting up of the last and the least. |
