Someone has to give way. It is saddening to discover, in today's gospel, that in the packed house where Jesus was teaching, nobody was willing to give up a place. Nobody gave way. Those bringing the paralyzed man had to pull the roof aside in order to make a hole big enough to lower the stretcher. It is an act of heroism to give way. It is dying to oneself so that others may live. |
