Joy is very Marian. Gaudete Sunday falls on the feast of Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe. Both Zephaniah and St. Paul (first and second readings) invite us to rejoice. The gospel spells out the sources of joy -- sharing of cloaks and food, avoiding extortions, being satisfied with wages. All works of love give joy. The Blessed Mother loved God. Her whole life was a joyful Yes to Him. |
