The motif of "salvation" is preponderant in the Benedictus. This Canticle of Zechariah praises God for the work of salvation that dawned upon us. John the Baptist was that dawn that heralded the even greater light, Jesus, whose name means "God saves." It is our constant task to participate in God's act of saving humanity. Our Savior sees a partner in us. |
