The Church recognizes the "chair" [in Greek "kathedra"] which is the symbol of authority to teach. But she does not forget that the Greatest Teacher, Jesus, did not have a "kathedra." If he did have, it was the cross, the place of his ignominious death. He walked along the seashores. He was an itinerant preacher but people believed in him because of the authority of his witnessing. He lived what he preached. |
