We can pretend to be someone we are not. In purely human affairs, we call it hypocrisy. In matters of faith, if we pretend to be God, we are guilty of blasphemy. In today's gospel, Jesus is accused of blasphemy, a false accusation. He is not making himself God because he really is. We are the ones guilty of blasphemy. We control everything. We pretend to know all things. We make ourselves gods. |
