Contrast is a literary style. Today's gospel begins with that contrast. It was "still dark" when Mary of Magdala went to the tomb but Jesus has been risen and the "light" of his resurrection has already dispelled darkness. The Johannine gospel stresses the darkness of unbelief. Christian life is not a contrast of faith and life. As we believe, we live. |
