A person in distress needs a companion. The two disciples on the road to Emmaus were in deep sorrow and Jesus walked with them. This is a paradigm of accompaniment. To accompany a person is to walk with that person and listen to him. We don't need so many words to console a suffering fellow. Our mere presence provides consolation beyond human telling. |
