Mater Ecclesiae. Today, we honor Mary as Mother of the Church. Already in the earlier centuries, St. Ambrose of Milan spoke of Mary as Model of the Church. Specifically, Pope Paul VI attributed to Mary the title Mother of the Church. As mother, she cooperated with the plan of God as she was standing "next to the crucified." Entrusted to us (vicariously to John) as mother, she continuously intercedes for the Church and for all of us. |
