Are we instructed to do a self-mutilation when Jesus taught us to cut off our hands and pluck out our eyes? No, not at all. We are only reminded to avoid occasions of sins. It is a radical [from Latin "radix" meaning "root"] way of rooting out that which leads us to sin. Conversely, we are told to use our hands and ears profitably, doing good and not causing evil. |
