The immediacy of response. This is one of the emphases of today's gospel. When called by Jesus, Matthew got up and immediately followed the Lord. This is in contrast with how we respond to that call to holiness which is the fundamental vocation of every Christian. We delay things. We procrastinate our decision. We postpone our actions. We need the radical decision of Matthew. It must be YES. It must be NOW. |
