Varied are the interpretations of FIRE. It is an instrument for cooking, a source of heat during winter, a test for gold, a way of destruction and a threatening image of hell. In the Scriptures, fire symbolizes the presence of God (at night) and the coming of the Spirit. In today's gospel, Jesus speaks of his wish to see the fire already blazing .We cannot be passively cold. We must be actively hot in the practice of faith. A Christian is constantly burning in love. |
