Contrast is a meaningful artistic element. The Johannine account of the resurrection stresses that "it was still dark" to signify the apostles' darkness of understanding. The Synoptic gospels emphasize that "it was dawning." Darkness and light. Sin and grace. Despair and hope. Death and new life. Covid-19 "buried" our earthly attachments. From the "tomb" of selfishness, let us open a new "womb" of altruism. |
