The whole of humanity is on a difficult journey. Covid-19 has imperiled the otherwise safe path but we can draw enough strength from the moving Emmaus story of this Sunday's gospel. The two disciples already succumbed to despair but Jesus, the fountain of hope, walked with them. He walks with us today, not ahead of us because we are too weak to follow, not behind us because we are too frightened to lead. He gently walks beside us to make us courageous and strong again. |
