The word "repent" presupposes an earlier transgression. Presumably one has sinned before such repentance takes place. When Jesus commenced his ministry he gave a tall order "Repent and believe in the gospel." Preceding that call was his experience of temptation. He knows that we, weak human beings, easily succumb to temptation. We must constantly take the road to conversion because invariably the devil leads us astray. |
