Are all prayers efficacious? No! A mere mechanical invocation of Jesus' name is not a guarantee. What He promises, in today's gospel, is the efficacy of prayer that is in harmony with God's will and obedience to His commandments. At all times especially when we are groping in darkness, we call upon the name of the Lord but our hearts can be far from him. It is not enough to honor him with our lips. The prayer of a humble and contrite heart is the one that pleases God. |
