The original group of twelve was reduced to eleven. Why? One of them, Judas Iscariot, did not "remain in Jesus." He became a traitor. Consequently, Matthias was chosen by lot. The gospel strongly reminds us to remain in Jesus and never depart from him as Judas did. St. Peter testified that Matthias stayed with Jesus from his Baptism until the Ascension. A loyal friend! Let's imitate him. |
