St. Augustine beautifully explained the profound mystery of the Blessed Trinity in human terms through his "Psychological Analogy." He said, "The Father is the Lover, the Son is the Beloved and the Holy Spirit is Love." Today's gospel mentions the three persons. This part of the Matthean gospel is not considered "the very words of Jesus" [in Latin "ipsissima verba Jesu"] but just a reflection of how the early Christians were baptizing. Still, these words introduce the Father as the one who loves the Son in the bond of love who is the Holy Spirit. |
