The idiomatic expression "the whole nine yards" means "everything." Simon Peter could have told Jesus, "We have left the whole nine yards to follow you." Was he exaggerating? He was a fisherman and he did not have much to leave. But for a fisherman, leaving a boat is "the whole nine yards." Peter left everything that he had and entrusted himself to Jesus. A trusting faith which we shouid have. Relying on Jesus and on Jesus alone, we will abandon the whole nine yards. |
