Patristic writings invariably make a sacramental reference to the blood and water flowing from the pierced side of Jesus. Blood alludes to the Eucharist and water points to Baptism. These two sacraments born from the side close to the heart of Jesus reveal the great love of the Lord. His Sacred Heart continuously beats for love of humanity wounded by sin. As we celebrate this Solemnity we thank Jesus for his loving, forgiving and saving Heart. |
