It is customary to visit another person's house. Whether or not the dweller knows it, a good habit is to wish that person the gift of peace -- "Shalom aleichem." Jesus, in today's gospel, enjoins us "As you enter a house wish it peace." Instead of making a quick glance [on the dweller's possessions] which evokes an envious admiration or contemptous remarks, silently wish the person the gifts of long life, good health, sound sleep, tranquil mind, happiness, prosperity and all the good things which "Shalom" embraces.
