We all have peak-experiences. Those are moments of immense joy. But we also come back to the drudgery of daily life. Those are moments of non-glory. That is one lesson of the Transfiguration Narrative. Jesus was transfigured [ in Greek "metamorphousthai" which is an allusion to the new form ("morphe") of the Risen Lord] but he could not stay permanently on the mountain. He had to "go to the plains again." That is our very life. There are both peak and low moments. |
