Queen-Mother. There were instances in the Old Testament when the King's mother becomes his "successor" to the throne. It is in this context of succession that we understand Mary's Queenship. It has a reference to the Kingship of her Son, Jesus whom she conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit. With joy [in Greek "genoito"], Mary became the Mother of Jesus, the King. With equal joy, Jesus made her his (and our) Queen. |
