Augustine knew he was a sinner and he admitted it. He was never tainted by hypocrisy that is spoken of In today's gospel. The scribes and Pharisees are like whitewashed tombs but full of dead men's bones inside. It is more pleasing to God if we humbly admit our sinfulness instead of pretending to be someone we are not. It is alright to appear dirty if we really are. We emulate St. Augustine. Without an iota of pretense. Very sincere. |
