Why are the poor blessed? It is not poverty itself but the right attitude. The Anawins learned to depend on God. The Lucan (like the Matthean) Beatitudes consider poverty as the the very first and, therefore, the foundation of the other expressions of blessedness. If in our poverty we acknowledge our utmost dependence on God, we are truly blessed. The Lord will enrich us with his loving care. |
